Uniforms at Armidale Secondary College

Uniforms

Dear Parents & Carers,

The wearing of school uniforms by students helps builds self-confidence and a sense of connection with the community.

It is encouraging to see so many students complying with the uniform code as we commence a new academic year. There are however, a visible number of no-uniform items being observed within the school. The wearing of uniform at Armidale Secondary College is endorsed by the Parents and Citizen’s Association and has been the result of consultation with the wider school community.

The wearing of school uniform is covered by the NSW Public Schools Behaviour Code for Students (2015) ‘…In NSW public schools students are expected to comply with the schools’ uniform policy or dress code’. The wearing of school uniform is a health and safety consideration at ASC as our grounds are largely unfenced; any strangers can quickly be identified if students comply with the dress code.

The school is committed to working with students and families to ensure compliance with the school uniform. We would ask for your help and support in ensuring that your son/daughter has the correct uniform items. The new school uniform has many options and has been designed to comfortable and appropriate for all school activities. We are continuing to see black tights/active wear being worn to school, in addition to jeans and t-shirts. These items are NOT part of the endorsed uniform and we will be seeking your assistance to ensure that these items are not being worn to school. (If unsure, please refer to document which includes a table of items that are not to be worn)

If you are experiencing difficulty acquiring the necessary pieces of clothing, I would encourage you to make contact with the school as soon as possible so that we can assist where necessary. ASC has had generous support from the P&C to purchase uniform items for families who are unable to meet the costs of the uniform.

The Positive Behaviour for Learning (PBL) initiative at ASC and CREW classes will be avenues where we can recognise students for consistently wearing the correct uniform. I would also like to acknowledge the significant numbers of students who already wear their full school uniform with pride on a daily basis, this contributes significantly to school image and a positive school culture.

Please refer to our Uniform Policy for your information. If you require any further clarification or information, please do not hesitate to contact the school.

Kind regards,

Carolyn Lasker (Principal)
