Maths at Armidale Secondary College

Armidale Secondary College offers mathematics in a broad range of contexts to allow for students to develop their logical, critical and practical thinking skills. With the development of these skill we hope for all of our students to enhance their life skills and become active participants of the world around them.

 

At Armidale Secondary College, we strive to cater to the diverse range of learning skills our students have while also ensuring that each child receives the quality education which all students deserve.

 

The study of mathematics is mandatory from Kindergarten to Year 10. 

By studying mathematics, students learn to work mathematically – developing fluency, understanding, problem-solving, reasoning and communication skills.

The syllabus consists of the following strands:

  • number and algebra
  • measurement and geometry
  • statistics and probability.

In Year 11 and 12, the study of mathematics is optional. Courses offered include:

  • Mathematics Extension 2 (Year 12 only)
  • Mathematics Extension 1
  • Mathematics Advanced
  • Mathematics Standard 2
  • Mathematics Standard 1 (Optional HSC examination)
  • Mathematics Life Skills.

To aid our students we have a number of resources from which to draw upon to provide additional information and questions.

 

 

Mathematics is involved in every aspect of life and hence our approaches must be ever evolving and adapt to the way society it moving. Our incorporation of technology and project based learning allows for students to engage with these formats extending their own abilities in areas which they are passionate.
