Open Girls' Touch - Historic Win

Open Girls' Touch Football

The open girls touch team played Bundarra in the second round of the state CHS knockout on Friday.

Bundarra had three North West  representatives and one State CHS representative in their side so it was a real challenge for our girls. Bundarra have dominated North West in touch for around 10 years. They have evolved as a tremendous team for their school and they have achieved great success.

Bundarra started on fire scoring in the first set of six. Our girls came back and rallied to make it 4-4 at half time. The second half was full of drama as both times fell under fatigue. Each side had to ferociously defend their lines.  ASC skipped out to a 6-4 lead with 7 minutes to go. Bundarra came back with a try and it was set for a great finish. With 4 minutes to go ASC held Bundarra out from their line in three sets of six and claimed the first win for an Armidale Open Girls side over Bundarra in over 8 years.

The side was lead well by senior students, Daphne Blair and Kasey Gaukroger. They controlled the middle and kept the rep players at bay for most of the game. Jamia Jarret, Madison Moran, Tahli Smith defended strongly throughout the game. Our crucial tries were scored by: Stevie Boney (2), Jamelia Kelly (2), Patricia Dixon and Tykeisha Collins.

The referees commended our players on their positive conduct and sportsmanship which was very pleasing.

The girls now meet the winner of Tamworth High and Quirindi High.
