CRICKET CHAMPIONS

cricket

The open girls cricket travelled to Bathurst from the 25th - 27th of March to play in the state finals of the Marie Cornish Plate. On the Tuesday, the girls versed Westfields Sports High School who were a tough opponent on a wet wicket. Unfortunately, Westfields got the win in on the day.

The journey did not finish there though, on Wednesday 27th there was a game for third place against Orange High School. Sophie Parsons won the toss and elected to bat. Sophie batted magnificently at the top of the order scoring 105 runs not out. Samantha Marshall dug in deep to put a good partnership in and scored a gritty 11. The whole team were able to hang on and were able to score 150 by the end of their innings.

The fielding innings was an all-round team display with the bowlers having a sharing in the wickets. Brooke Moran took 2 in the first over and was unlucky to not get her hattrick. Lailani Simon took 3 wickets which included a great caught and bowled. Maddison Bull and Alynyah Moran also getting wickets.

The girls ended up winning the match by 102 runs and were crowned the best comprehensive high school in the state. Thank you to all of the girls for their hard work, commitment, teamwork and sportsmanship over the three days.

Thank you to Mr Andrew Curry and Mr Andrew Watkins for taking the time to drive the girls down and support them.
