Luke Rees Represents at the Minister for Education's Student Council!

Year 10 student Luke Rees, accompanied by SRC Coordinator Mr. Lane, travelled to Parramatta for the Annual General Meeting and Induction of the Minister for Education's Student Council. This marks Luke's second year on the council, where he plays an important role in representing the views of public-school students in New England directly to Minister for Education, Prue Car.

The week was packed with opportunities for learning and leadership! After arriving on Tuesday, Luke met with fellow student leaders and then headed to the Melanoma Institute on Wednesday. Here, the group participated in a Sun Safety workshop where they heard from a melanoma survivor, learned about the risks of UV radiation, and worked on developing their presentation skills by pitching the importance of sun safety. This year, our ASC SRC will be working on initiatives to help make our school more sun safe!

On Thursday, the group visited Parliament House, where they met Deputy Premier and Minister for Education Prue Car, along with Secretary of the Department of Education Murat Dizdar. Luke even had the chance to address the council from the Lower House dispatch box!

The day concluded with a Q&A session with the Deputy Premier.

On Friday, the students took part in a co-design process focusing on the important issue of drug and alcohol education in schools.

Luke was an outstanding representative of our school throughout the week and built meaningful connections with student leaders from across the state. He’ll continue to participate in Regional Forums to discuss key educational issues throughout the year. We’re incredibly proud of Luke’s contributions and leadership!
